Community Services

The Seattle Indian Center serves the very poorest people among us, the homeless and the destitute. We provide some of the basic needs for people who simply have nowhere else to turn. These are the people for whom we began our work. And these are the people who are still the primary focus of our efforts.

The fastest growing segment of the homeless population is single women with children. By working with these vulnerable families, we break the cycle of poverty at its core.

Emergency Services

Our Emergency Services programs provide a variety of services such as infant supplies, hygiene supplies, household and personal items. We also provide shelter vouchers and bus tickets. SIC provides our own mail service as many of the people we serve have no permanent residence.

Food Bank

We deliver food to the disabled, shut-in and ill. We work with other community based programs to provide food to people of all ethnic backgrounds. Our Food Bank serves nearly 1,000 people twice weekly.

Hot Meals

A child goes to bed hungry every night in Seattle despite the area’s wealth of natural resources and because of affluent indifference to those in need. We serve meals to over 200 people every day of the week, fighting hunger among American Indians/Alaska Natives and other economically disadvantaged people. We serve clients of the Leschi Center, including elders living at Leschi House.

Through our off-site meal program, we seek out the people who need us most. We search the parks, under the freeways, wherever the homeless gather.
